In 1999, Nissan ushered in a new chief executive Carlos Ghosn in a downturn. After he joined Nissan Motor Co., he took a series of reforms to bring the Nissan Motor Corporation’s share of Japan’s auto market back to 18% from 17.4%, the lowest level in 27 years, ahead of Honda after Toyota. It also raised the operating profit of Nissan Motor Co. in the European and American auto markets and unveiled the most striking page in Asian business history.
