瓠子河决是西汉历史上的重要历史事件,对当时社会发展产生了重大影响。汉武帝命汲黯、郑当时主持堵复,未能成功,直到元封二年才由汲仁、郭昌主持堵口成功。关于先期汲黯、郑当时的渡口未能取得成功的原因众说纷纭。笔者认为包括这几方面:一是汉武帝重“堵”不重“导”,堵决技术不成熟以及材料匮乏;二是汉武帝过于关注关中经济区的水利建设,对黄河重视不够;三是汉武帝迷信天命,听信权臣田蚡的谬论;四是对外大举反击匈奴,无暇顾及治理黄河。
