20世纪初,广东商人的社会地位大大提高。他们通过成立广州总商会、粤商自治会等实现了组织型态上的重要转变,希冀振兴和保护商业。但商业的顺畅与否,常与政治的发展密切相关。因而,广东商人发动了许多保护国内产业的政治活动,比如抵制外货运动、参与一些国内政治事务等等,一定程度上体现出政治参与意识的成长。 At the beginning of the 20th century, the social status of Guangdong businessmen was greatly enhanced. Through the establishment of the Guangzhou General Chamber of Commerce and the Cantonese Autonomous Community, they achieved an important shift in organizational form with the hope of revitalizing and protecting commerce. However, the smoothness of business is often closely linked to the development of politics. Therefore, the Guangdong businessmen launched many political activities to protect their domestic industries, such as boycotting foreign goods movements and participating in some domestic political affairs, which, to a certain extent, reflected the growth of political participation.
