The quantifiers of Chinese are mostly evolved from real words. In this process of grammaticalization, the semantic meaning of the Chinese quantifiers becomes weak and the grammatical functions are enhanced. However, there is no reverse process in its grammaticalization, so far no clear conclusion has been reached. In 2004, Mr. Li Zongjiang elaborated on this issue in “The Inverse Process of Grammaticalization: The Realization of Chinese Classifiers”.
