吉林省南部的本溪群一般被认为是中石炭世维斯发期的海陆交互相沉积物。通过对原本溪群下部所含的大量腕足类、植物及(虫筳)科化石的分析和研究,认为其地质时代应属纳缪尔期。这种看法也许有助于华北地台区纳缪尔阶的研究。一、区内纳缪尔期地层—湾沟组的岩石组合及生物群特点: 区内纳缪尔期地层,在浑江凹陷带分布较广,以湾沟发育较好,化石丰富,厚度较大,上、下接触关系清楚。其上与本溪群呈整合接触,含Fusulina—Fusulinella带的(虫筳)科化石及植物化石Neuropteris gigantea—Linopteris brongniarti为组合特点和一些地方种、属;其下与含Armenoceras为主的奥陶系中统马家沟组呈不整合接触。将本区的纳缪尔期沉积,建组为湾沟组。
