Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is a 138-year-old organization specializing in safety management and safety technology. It was founded in 1864 and was originally designed to ensure that Norwegian ships have adequate safety standards in international trade. The goal of DNV has always been: to protect life, property and the environment. DNV’s activities initially focused on the maritime sector, but as Norway became an industrialized country, it has now expanded to cover most industrial sectors, notably the international oil and gas industry. Today, our non-maritime services account for 65% of the total industrial business, but it is still the fourth largest classification society in the world.
