20世纪上半叶,好莱坞电影之所以能树立起全球的霸权地位,与美国自身的文化输出策略有着密不可分的关系,体现在电影创作上就是一种“跨文化制作思维”。“跨国意识”的融入,为好莱坞打入国际市场提供了文化交流上的便利。早期好莱坞电影在表现中国题材时,很明显注入了一种对中西“场域”交互想象的特征,这在影片《天国之路》中有充分的体现。尤其是本片在“跨地时空建构”“跨文化身份认同”以及“中西文化博弈”几个方面,明显呈现出了一种“交互想象”的典型态势。
