In the first part of this article, model-based depth imaging techniques are introduced. The application areas of this technique are discussed through concrete examples of different tectonic features, demonstrating the improvement of image quality and further illustrating why this technique can win people’s trust. Deep imaging is not a new introduction of a technology, but the application of the technology has not been possible in the past. The first is that it requires a lot of computational effort, and the second is that high-precision subsurface velocity data must be obtained for better imaging quality than conventional time-migration imaging methods. This article will discuss the theories and methods used to build the velocity models.
