RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) analysis was applied to sweet potato ( Ipomoea batatats (L.) Lam.). In order to assess the degree of polymorphism with the incompatible groups and to investigate if this approach was suitable for identifying incompatible groups, sixteen sweet potato cultivars and one related wild species? 獻.trifida , including 7 incompatible groups, were evaluated by using random 10-mer primers. Wide variations in banding profiles among cultivars were observed and cluster analysis was used to generate a dendrogram showing the relationships among incompatible groups of sweet potato.
