The phone was introduced to China in 1877 and was gradually used by domestic newspapers until the early 20th century for interviews and transmission of messages. By the 1920s, the major business mega-cities of China’s major cities competed to send messages over the phone and messages sent over the phone, some in numbers that have caught up with or exceeded the telegram. For the convenience and cheap use of telephony, the press made long-term efforts to compel the transport authorities of the National Government to make a gesture of preferential treatment to the press and eventually achieve the nationwide goal of fee reduction for news calls after the war of resistance against Japan. Calls become more and more the newspaper’s timeliness weapon for the news, and even become an important factor that can link the survival and development of the newspaper.
