Shu Guicai, deputy director of the Human Resource and Social Security Department of Lianzhou City, Guangdong Province, drove a damaged car and hit people before running away. The one he injured was not sent to the hospital in time, which led to his final death. Recently, the regional court of Lianzhou sentenced Shu Guicai to a three-year imprisonment with the crime of causing traffic accident. The relatives of the deceased thought the punishment was too light and made their protest, which was however rejected.
The accident happened on the night of February 1, when Shu Guicai was driving a damaged car on his way of returning home. When he drove onto a road close to a residential community, his car knocked down a passerby named Tan Guanyun. After that, Shu did not send Tan to the hospital; instead, he drove away from the scene. Later, he walked back to the site but still took no measures to save the injured. Yet he picked the debris from his car and threw them into the garbage bin of the residential community he lived in to destroy the proof. Then he drove the car to a thermal power station for hiding.
However, the policemen soon found where the car came from based on the video record of the accident and an investigation. Shu Guicai had no way but to confess his crime.
On February 28, Shu Guicai was arrested by the police with the crime of causing traffic accidents. On June 25, the court began the trial of this case. According to the official report, the car Shu drove was no longer suitable for driving. In addition, Shu Guicai ran away from the scene, causing the death of the injured. He has violated the criminal law and deserved punishment.
