Because of the poor protective efficacy of the existing oral all-cell Salmonella typhi Ty21a and Vi capsular polysaccharide vaccines against vaccines against paratyphoid or non-salmonella typhimurium (NTS) serotypes, new approaches should be explored. The immunological mechanisms induced by the two typhoid vaccines are mainly aimed at different structures. The authors investigated whether using both vaccines at the same time could improve Salmonella typhimurium-specific immune responses and against other Salmonella cross-reactions. The volunteers were vaccinated with both Ty21a and Vi vaccines (Ty21a + Vi) or vaccinated alone (Ty21a and Vi). All volunteers
