Since the Third Plenary Session, under the guidance of the economic adjustment policy, Shanghai’s light industry has witnessed rapid development. In 1981, the total production value reached 34.9 billion yuan, an average increase of 10.4% over four years, which exceeded the average rate of increase of 9.1% in the previous 29 years. The proportion of Shanghai’s light industry has increased from 49.3% in 1978 to 55.9%. Shanghai’s total industrial output value accounts for 1/8 of the country’s total, while Shanghai’s total output value of light industry accounts for 13.5% of the country’s light industry, of which textiles account for 16.3% of the national textile industry. In recent years, the rapid development of Shanghai’s light industry in adjustment has played a significant role in the development of China’s agricultural industry.
