前文《碛·壁·坞》谈了三个地名通名字,本文再续谈“阳”、“阴”和“家(各)”三个通名用字。阳《谷梁传·僖公二十八年》:“水北为阳,山南为阳。”位于某水北岸,在水名之后冠以“阳”的地名,前为专名,后为通名。例如:沈阳地处沈水之北,故名。沈水又名浑河,系辽河的一个支流。与之有关的另一地名是辽阳。按理辽阳在辽河另一支流太子河之南当称辽阴,而辽阳之名是因袭汉代旧名。汉代辽阳城在今城西北,太子河之北,故名。
