2002年11月25日,由上海书画出版社主办,题为“高山流水——当代山水画邀请展”在上海刘海粟美术馆开幕。此次邀请了卢辅圣、龙瑞、卢禹舜、寿觉生、萧海春、徐龙森、卓鹤君、张洪(美国)、李华弌(美国)、朱道平、赵卫、郑力、胡应康、王敬恒14位山水画家参展。该展刻意安排在上海博物馆“晋唐宋元国宝展”同期举办,其用意与效果不难想象。对照展题“高山流水”,我们更可见主办者对山水画悠久历史在当代的处境所投注的思考。参展者与策划人之一,上海东海堂画廊主人徐龙森说,伟大的宋元山水画始终是,也应该是当代山水画与之对话的活的传统,然而今日的国画家对山水画的历史性与当代性是否能真正理解?“晋唐宋元国宝展”与“高山流水”展的同期展出无疑为我们提供了一次难得的对照与省思的机会。值得注意的是,该展大部分作品尺幅巨大,装裱与展示方式别开生面,极具当代性,而大部分参展画家均在不同程度上追溯明以前山水画的宏大结构,各地观众以及来自欧美的为数甚多的美术汉学家对该展的展示效果表示惊讶与赞赏,认为这是近年国内难得一见的山水画展。画展举办前夕,上海书画出版社印行了精美的画册,当中附有每位画家的自述。一位美术界的同行看过画展后评价说:这是山水画界一次有自尊的展览。
