飞机制造业是高技术战略产业,尤其体现在高性能战斗机和大型飞机的发展上,它对科技进步和创新具有广泛、持久的牵引作用。但是,无论是高性能战斗机还是大型飞机,产品都非常复杂,并且具有严格的气动外形要求、内部结构复杂、涉及专业面广、设计更改频繁、对重量要求苛刻、空间十分紧凑、零部件数量巨大、系统布置密集等特点,所以飞机研制过程是一个技术难度大、研制周期长、协作面广、费用昂贵、管理复杂的系统工程,各项任务之间既相互联系,又相互制约。不仅需要各种单项技术的精通应用,而且需要从全局、从整体出发,对飞机的全生命周期即从用户提出的需求开始、直至飞机设计、制造、交付出厂以及投入运营后的服务工作进行综合、协调和集成,对飞机研制全过程进行管理和监控。正是现代飞机研制的这一特点,它迫切需要应用信息化技术从根本上来改变传统的飞机产品的研制模式、方法和过程,大幅度地提高飞机研制质量、缩短研制周期和降低成本。
