OBJECTIVE: To study the latent effects of soot on human health according to the different degree of DNA damage to human body’s lymphocytes according to different types of soot. Methods: Intervention trial of 18-month-old population. Taking rural household women who used ordinary raw coal as fuel for life as the test subjects, one group of women switched to sulfur-fixing coal as the experimental group while the other group used ordinary coal as control group. Comet assay was used to detect the degree of DNA damage in the peripheral blood lymphocytes of the experimental subjects. Respectively before the test, the experiment was measured in December and 18 times. Results: The COMET (%) in the experimental group decreased, while there was no significant difference in the control group. Conclusion: The use of sulfur-fixing coal instead of ordinary coal as living fuel can reduce the DNA damage of lymphocytes and has a positive effect on the maintenance of people’s health.
