本世纪三十年代,在文坛上周作人是一位有名人物,我没有读过他的文章,自然也说不上崇拜他。可我们曾有过一面之交,是难忘的。1935年我正在天津南开大学西洋文学系三年级学习。那年寒假我去日本东京探亲,8月底回校上学。从东京乘火车到神户,又从神户搭轮船回天津。在轮船上我遇到周作人与他的日本妻子羽太信子。那时天津与神户之间往来的客轮,只有日本大坂商船株式会社运营的三条船:长城丸、长安丸、长江丸。这三条船大小形状都一样,不过两千吨左右。虽然不很大,但是比当时中国招商局的轮船大。相比之下日本船清洁整齐,票价便宜舱位分为一等二等三等其三等舱不像中国
