一直以来,中国的英语语言教学课程采用大量的文学作品作为教材。传统的语言教学侧重于语言分析,而轻文学评论和鉴赏。本文借鉴西方学者对于语言教学与文学教学的一些观点,以James Joyce的短篇小说“Eveline”为例,详细阐述了在高级阅读中文学作品的教学过程,认为语言教学与文学教学可以也应当融合在一起。这种融合不仅能提高学生的语言意识和文学鉴赏能力,而且还能培养他们的批判性思维能力。
All along, a large number of literary works have been used as textbooks in English language teaching courses in China. Traditional language teaching focuses on linguistic analysis, while light literary criticism and appreciation. This article draws on Western scholars’ viewpoints on language teaching and literature teaching. Taking James Joyce’s short story “Eveline” as an example, this article elaborates the teaching process of advanced reading Chinese literature, and holds that language teaching and literature teaching can and should be integrated with together. This convergence not only enhances students’ language and literary appreciation skills, but also fosters their critical thinking skills.
