《劫余灰》这部小说是吴趼人文化观的一个侧影——“中体西用”。其主题话语具有两重性:其一,以家庭伦理中的夫妻之伦为立足点,主张儒家传统道德的复归;其二,揭露了外国殖民主义者与帝国主义国家贩卖华工、迫害华工的罪恶。艺术方面,在传统中新变:第三人称限制叙事方式的引入、虚实交错的创作手法、结笔突兀、以巧成书,表现出对中国传统小说艺术的创造性转化意识。
The book “Yu Yu gray” is a silhouette of Wu Mi’s cultural view - “Chinese Western”.
