Reinforced earth structures have developed rapidly and widely used abroad for more than a decade. In recent years, China has also begun to use and research. However, there are still many problems in the calculation of this structure. As a result, there is no sense in adapting to the design of reinforced earth structures. Numerical analysis methods (finite difference method, finite element method) and conventional methods (conventional limit analysis methods based on Coulomb and Rankin theory) can be used to calculate the reinforced earth structure. However, due to the existence of problems such as the establishment of the constitutive relationship between the structure and the soil, the numerical method can only be used as a research tool for the analysis of the retaining structure. In the actual design work in foreign countries, conventional methods are used for calculation. Because the conventional limit equilibrium method is not strictly theoretical; the constitutive relationship between soil and structure and the construction procedure are difficult to describe. Therefore, the conventional method is actually an approximate estimation method. Technicians use this common tool plus “engineering judgments” to design. Therefore, conventional methods should strive to simplify within a certain limit. This article is based on the study of some foreign methods of calculation, through the specific design, construction and prototype load test of the reinforced earth test project, as a summary of some personal experience and views. And proposed a simplified calculation method for internal stability of reinforced earth retaining wall of highway embankment and comrades to discuss together.
