直柄麻花钻四辊轧制工艺的应用虽然已相当广泛,但由于工艺及材料热塑性方面的诸多问题,在日益激烈的国际竞争中正在失去优势。关中工具厂为了充分发挥四辊轧工艺的优势,尽量减少因轧裂造成的废品损失和提高钻头的质量,大量采用轧沟磨背工艺,即在热塑变形中,不直接轧出钻头刃背带,而只轧出钻头的沟形,刃带则通过磨背工序获得。与磨制钻头相比,可节约高速钢25~30%,具有生产效率高,钻头外观好,钻头强度高等优点。特别适用于热塑性较差的材料。1985年以来,该厂每年生产轧沟磨背钻头300万件,每年节约人民币110万元。
