作者对陕西省汉阴县双河口乡人口中智力低下者进行了调查。调查结果,该乡人均年收入91.1元,粮300公斤。全乡有完全小学两所,初级小学七所。学龄儿童入学率65.39%。平均入学年龄8.56岁。入学年龄最迟为13岁。全乡文盲占55.85%。15—35岁人群文盲占该年龄组的76.25%。此组中智低人385名,占该人群9.58%。(主为中型)1—14岁组有206名属极轻型。在这206名儿童中父母均为文盲者占72.11%;而正常儿童的父母双文盲的只占17%。相差明显。一户一名智低人的98户;一户两名智低人的38户共203名。表现明显的家族聚居性。提示遗传性因素。其他病因有教育、营养、甲状腺肿、高烧抽风、病毒感染、难产、脑外伤、药物、早产和新生儿窒息等。
