Using dozens of femtosecond laser pulses, chemists can study the movement of atoms during chemical reactions and biologists can witness the first steps of a natural process (such as photosynthesis). But the only way to take a quick look at the faster natural processes (such as electron motion) is to use short pulses. Bursts also have a broad spectrum, which is important for medical imaging and allows the concentration of peaks to be used for material handling.
