Raychem Co., Ltd. of the United Kingdom used the Rayfos system recently developed by the company to wind optical cables around existing overhead power lines with a helical pitch of 500 mm to 700 mm, resulting in a cheap suspension for data processing, telemetry and audio communications body. A specially designed mounting machine spirals the optical fiber around an overhead conductor. This device can rise above the power line. Use a tow rope to pull from the ground. The device accommodates all types of conductors and their associated midspan hinges. Depending on the topography, a single installation can carry 3 to 4 km of fiber cable per day.
