Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is one of the major virus types that cause tomato crops on the outskirts of Shanghai. In 1981, we identified the type of spring tomato virus in the suburbs of Shanghai and found that the infection rate of CMV in the field was 31.3% and the infection rate of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) was 30.6%. CMV often causes the diseased plants to exhibit curled leaf or fern leaf symptoms after inoculation of tomato in the field and the growth of the plants was significantly inhibited. Late in many diseased stems, collateral and stalk appear brown necrotic spots or streaks. The incidence of serious plots of tomato yield loss is enormous. In addition, due to the increase of bad fruits, the quality of the fruits’ products also dropped significantly. The distribution of CMV in nature is extremely broad. It can not only infect a variety of vegetable crops, but also more harm
