唐代的陪陵制度始于唐太宗之时。贞观十一年(637),唐太宗下诏:“自今已后,功臣密戚及德业佐时者,如有薨亡,宜赐茔地一所,及以秘器,使窀穸之时,丧事无阙。所司依此营备,称朕意焉。”~([1])贞观二十年,又“许陪葬者子孙从葬”~([2])。此后唐太宗进一步规定了父祖陪陵、子孙从葬制度。从此陪陵遂成定制,成为最高统治者给予“功臣密戚及德业佐时者”的一种特殊待遇和荣誉,同时也是笼络人心、巩固政权的手
