From animals, humans are always inspired by many new materials. Recently, Professor Dou Shi Xue, director of the Superconductivity and Electronic Materials Research Center at the University of Wollongong in Australia, together with his Chinese colleague, developed a new super-hydrophobic anti-fog coating under the eye of a fly. The research is published online in the new material journal Small. Fogging on the material surface is due to the formation of droplets larger than 190 nanometers in diameter that scatter light and make the material’s surface hazy. In the low temperature environment, the water vapor will form a supercooling frozen fog, the power poles, communications cables, aircraft and other serious damage.
