一.‘雷靖臣古玩字画商行’的搜集与经营在金石古玩书籍中每每提到的‘洛阳雷氏’,即洛阳老城人雷明德先生(字靖臣,或称靖丞、俊臣)。他生于清光绪三年(1877年),清末曾在洛阳县衙当小差,后又经营小买卖,偶然收到一些玉石、甲骨与器物等古玩,渐次产生爱好,并认识到古玩字画的弥足珍贵,就不断多方搜集,扩大到金石碑刻。从清末到民国初年,雷靖臣先生声名遐迩,在北京、南京、上海开设古玩字画商行,还结识了西安于右任、天津姚贵眆、洛阳张钫与冯玉祥等社会名流,过从甚密。于右任曾于民国三十六年(1947年)亲题‘雷靖承古玩字画商行’字号。另题一幅将‘承’写作‘臣’,并在‘臣’字右边加写小字‘十丞’。此后,雷靖臣先生的碑志收藏。以‘洛阳雷氏’的雅称,见诸于金石书法史籍。与‘武进陶氏’(陶涉园)、‘吴兴蒋氏’皆饮誉中外。雷靖臣先生还与袁世凯长子以及罗振玉、梅兰芳先生有古玩字画碑拓方面的往来交情。
