The AN / APS-116 radar system, developed by the US Navy for marine surveillance and anti-submarine warfare reconnaissance, is based on the goal of reliably probing small periscopes in the presence of strong interfering signals in the form of sea clutter backscatter. The radar system is designed using high-range resolution and fast scanning antennas. The signal processing scheme is implemented using scan-scan decorrelation and the M / N threshold is used for target exploration. This article also includes a short introduction to each of the major components of the radar and a qualification test profile that validates the performance of the system.
