According to a report by the Archives Workers Association of the United States in July 1986, President Reagan proposed to the Senate Committee on Government Affairs in May 1986 the appointment of John Agrestore as director of the National Archives. The Commission has the responsibility of overseeing the work of the National Archives and is therefore responsible for holding hearings on the approval of this appointment. Agresto was born in 1946 and received his Ph.D. in political science from Cornell University in 1974. 1972-78 Professor of Political Science at Kenyon College 6 years. In 1978 he was a member of the National Humanities Center in North Carolina and later was a program director for the organization. In 1982, William Bennett, director of the center, went to Washington to serve as “the nation.”
