This summer, several rounds of heavy rains hit the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Extremist floods rarely seen in history occurred in parts of Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi and Jiangsu provinces. Compared with the floods in the Yangtze River basin 18 years ago, this year’s disaster concentrated in some areas of the middle and lower reaches. While fighting floods and taking shelter around the country and preventing all kinds of secondary disasters, a voice often appears: Has the Three Gorges Project played its due role? In response to this question, the reporter interviewed Lu Youmei, a hydropower expert and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Youyou served as vice chairman of the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee, China Three Gorges Project Development
