1924年,襄十岁,始养鸽。1928年于非厂先生《都门豢鸽记》(注1)问世,日手一册,读之不辍。稍长,曾从非厂先生画花鸟而未精绘鸽谱,实为憾事。进修研究院,见张万钟《鸽经》于《檀几丛书》,以为古可证今,今可溯古,得笔之于书也。旋以南行而未果。年届八旬,始先后获观故宫博物院所藏清宫鸽谱四种。彩笔写真,出名家之手,绘制年代,历康、雍至同、光,共二百二十四幅,其侧标有鸽名者一百八十
