新时期中国共产党倡导以人为本的直接目的在于否定“以物为本”、“以官为本”、“以书为本”。“以物为本”理念指导下的实践给环境、社会和人的发展带来了诸多恶果;“以官为本”理念支配下的行为破坏党群关系,变相降低了中国共产党的执政能力;“以书为本”表现为只重视抽象的理论以及名人名家之言,无视、轻视或淡化客观实际,间接危害到人民群众的利益,在实践中表现为教条主义。
