潜文本是文本表层结构之下的,隐性表达特定情感信息或规约信息的,实现特定交际意图的信息实体.其特征是客观上具有潜在性,主观上具有开放性.在文学翻译中,如何恰当地处理原文中的潜文本,使其在译文中得到再现,并在文本外观特征、交际功能和交际意图上与原文尽量对等,是一个尚未得到充分研究的问题.在实际的文学翻译实践中,翻译人员因翻译思想不同,采取的翻译操作也各不相同:采取直译方法往往忽视潜文本的潜在性;采取意译方法往往忽略潜文本的美学外观.因此,潜文本未能在译文中得到很好的再现,是文学翻译领域较为普遍的现状,漏译潜文本、潜文本显译、忽视潜文本形态等翻译瑕疵现象时有发生.
