This paper reports the killing and transformation of isolated early golden hamster embryonic cells (GHE) induced by ~(14)N and ~4He ion beams, and compared them with ~(60)Co gamma rays. On the 13th to the 14th day, GHE cells were used as target cells and cultured in Eagle’s MEM medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum at 37°C and 5% CO 2 . Heavy ion sources were generated by a cyclotron. The ion energy and LET value at the sample were measured. They are: 3.1 MeV/amu and 530 keV/μm (~14N), 4.2 MeV/amu, and 36 keV/μm (~4He), 1.7 MeV/amu, and 77 kcV/μm (~4He with aluminum absorption plate) The range of dosage is: 0.7~1.0Gy/min(~14N), 1.0~2.6Gy/min(~4He).~(60)Coγ-ray
