In tunnel construction, the inspection of lining quality is a difficult work to do because any errors and drawbacks of construction are covered by the lining bo ards. A Japanese company developed diagnostic vehicle to inspect lining quality. The device is composed of radar, electromagnetic wave transmitter and a calcula tion device. Because cavities, fractures or other drawbacks reflect electromagne tic wave in different speed, radar receives these reflecting waves in different time. Through the calculation of the time differences and analysis of reflecting waveforms, the device can tell if the lining is normal, which means the lining quality is OK.
