初次译书,而且是一本缩写的小册子,自然无什么经验可言。但作为一次习作,也颇有一些感受。现谈些点滴体会,向同志们求教。一、吃透原文再动手,不要边读边译。我们有些同志往往爱拿起原文就动手翻译,边翻译边查字典。结果译得疙疙瘩瘩,前言不搭后语,或者一连串的欧化句子,使人读起来味同嚼蜡。这样的翻译没有不失败的。即令在译出初稿之后,再回头修改,也往往需要化费几倍的冤枉功夫,而且不容易达到预期的效果。大翻译家傅雷先生说过,在动手翻译之前要先读五遍原文。这是极宝贵的经验之谈。 Initial translation, but also an abbreviated booklet, naturally no experience at all.
