From 2 to 9 March, the Contemporary Mexican Peasant Painting Exhibition entitled “Mexican Bark Painting Exhibition” is on display in the country’s embassy in China. Bark painted in Mexico has a long history. Bark paper made with banyan bark was originally dedicated to the king’s tribute, after which the artist recorded the age and festivals, the results of fortunetelling and the tribute items on bark paper, and the history of the nation was thus recorded. Nowadays Odomigers living in the northern mountains of Puebla still retain the tradition of banyan tree bark paper, while the Chinese in the middle reaches of the Balsa River inherit and develop the tradition of painting on bark paper.
