因陋就简的重庆机场以直辖市大重庆的概念来说,建于1928年的梁山军用机场(现梁平机场)是重庆的第一个机场。民国时期任四川省长兼国民革命军第21军军长的刘湘,为扩大自己在四川的势力,决定组建空军,构筑大西南空中防线,他在梁平县“北门操场”的土坝子上,建成了重庆第一个机场。这个机场很简易,东西长700米,南北宽600米,原是1923年与刘湘同被称为川军五行之一的四川军阀、20军军长杨森,借用北门外城郊的良田修建的检阅场,用后并没有归还,部队不时前去操练,得名“北门操场”。1928年刘湘与杨森交战夺取梁山后,在北门操场基础上修建了机场。抗战期间,中、美、苏空军战机入驻梁山机场,在重庆上空与敌机展开了长达5年多的殊死搏斗,梁山机场作为大后方离日军前哨最近的机
