因学建庙以庙兴学北宋天禧至庆历年间(1017-1048年),德化县始建文庙(学宫)。文庙(学宫)是当时德化县最高学府。在科举时代,文庙主要是祭祀礼拜孔子等儒家名人,兼作学术研究、讲学、文人集会的场所,也作为教谕衙和县试考场。1923年,在文庙里创办德化县立初级中学。抗日战争期间,省立晋江中学(今泉州五中)迁到德化文庙续办,直至抗战胜利后才搬回泉州。1949年11月德
