Changdu is a typical city in the history of ancient Chinese cities. Although some changes have quietly begun to take place in the cities of the Middle Ages, the 6th and 9th centuries Chang’an is still a relatively closed area. It is against this background that Tang Chang’an’s city gate, while being an important city building, has multiple meanings in terms of political space. This article is a discussion on the function and significance of Shing Mun in the Tang Dynasty dynasties politics.
