Experimental Method: The melting point was measured with Electrothermal 9100. Optical rotation was measured using a Perkin-Elmer 241 MC type polarimeter. IR was measured using a Perkin-Elmer 5808 spectrophotometer. NMR was measured using a Bruker Avance. MS was determined using a Finnigan MAT 300 mass spectrometer. Artemisinin (1) was isolated from the plant Artemisia annua according to the literature method.
