Objective: To investigate the changes and clinical significance of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) in peripheral blood of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: The changes of CECs in peripheral blood of 25 healthy controls and 40 patients with stage I-IV NSCLC were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Compared with healthy controls, the number of CECs in peripheral blood of patients with stage I-IV NSCLC increased. The number of CECs in patients with stage I and II NSCLC slightly increased. The number of CECs in patients with stage III and IV NSCLC was significantly higher. Conclusion: The changes of the number of CECs may be closely related to the clinical stage of NSCLC, which is expected to become a diagnostic molecule of NSCLC.
