China Architecture Design and Research Institute Picking up a building studio Architect drawings Traditional architectural drawings (flat, vertical, profile) are facing a catastrophe. As a trend of future architectural development, BIM is gradually replacing the two-dimensional orthographic projection familiar to architects with a three-dimensional parametric model. Autodesk claims it is another revolution in building design. Revit’s subtext is to flatten, stand up and profile the devil; do not believe the architect’s space imagination; everything back to the WYSIWYG “model age” - of course, this is parametric. It is no doubt that BIM does reduce the chance of making mistakes for construction, thus reducing construction costs. But for architects drawings are actually a way of thinking. Stan Allen once said that using two-dimensional architectural drawings to guide three-dimensional construction is the architect’s wisdom, it is a more efficient way of working. No tool can replace the thinking, so I still believe that the traditional architectural drawings, I still believe that a good plan without the three-dimensional verification is beautiful. No z-axis interference, everything clearer! Images
