能否说一口标准流利的普遍话是高职院校学生素质高低的一种表现。高职院校普通话教学在课堂、政策、环境三大生存空间的狭小和缺失，是高职院校毕业生书面和口头表达能力差的症结所在。文章指出了目前高职院校普通话教学生存的三大空间，分析了现状和缺陷，提出了拓展三大空间的措施。
