This year coincides with the 110th anniversary of the birth and the 70th anniversary of the death of the famous Soviet satirical satirist Iliya Irif (1897.10.15-1937.4.13). As a satirical writer deeply loved by readers all over the world, the name of Irif Iliya is often associated with another famous satirist, ЕвгенийПетров (1903.12.13-1942.7.2) of. The two writers co-authored two of the most prestigious satirical works in the early Soviet literature: “Twelve Chairs” (1928) and “Golden Calf” (1931). In addition, they also wrote many satirical essays, several novella and close-up. Readers can learn more about them from the “Autobiography” of the two writers below and feel the glamor of their humorous language. Sadly, both talented writers died young: in 1937, when Irif died of tuberculosis, Petrov lost his job in 1942 to a war correspondent. The first important work co-authored by Irif and Petrov is also their famous novel “Twelve Chairs”, which is most familiar to and loved by readers in our country. However, the background of the novel’s creation and publication is rather poorly known Two Russian researchers will give us a detailed introduction to the originality and edition of the novel.
