The chrysanthemum plant originally grew in Asia and is now spread throughout Europe. In the folk, Tanacetum parthenium is used as an antispasmodic, digestive, strong and stimulant. In the United Kingdom, what is known as “aspirin in the eighteenth century” was not only used to treat rheumatoid arthritis but also to treat headache and toothache. The short tongue chrysanthemum is similar to matricaria in form, with yellow tubular flowers and white ray flowers and pinnate leaflets, 30-80 cm in height, emitting a mother-like smell. In the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia in 1990, there was a monograph on the tongue, and thin-layer chromatography was used to distinguish the two. The ether oil of this plant mainly contains sesquiterpene lactone, which is mainly present in leaves and is a contact allergen. This plant extract inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and reduces serotonin secretion. Both of these mechanisms appear to be the reason why the plant is effective in migraine prevention. Sesquiterpene lactone shows antispasmodic effect on vascular smooth muscle and histamine release from mast cells
