The main factors affecting the strength of PAN fibers and the hydrolysis reaction under alkaline conditions were discussed. PAN-COOH type ion exchange fibers having a dry strength of 9.6 cN / dtex, an exchange capacity of 0.26 mmol / g and a specific surface area of ​​0.58 m2 / g were obtained. The specific surface composition of the fiber, the ratio of conversion of cyano to carboxyl, the arrangement of carboxyl groups on the fiber surface and the maximum theoretical hydrolysis amount were discussed in detail.
