1989年6月23日至24日,党的十三届四中全会在北京召开。全会之前,中央政治局举行了扩大会议,为全会的召开作了必要的准备。四中全会的主题是讨论赵紫阳在春夏之交的动乱中所犯的严重错误,并作出相应的组织处理。全会选举江泽民为中央委员会总书记;增选江泽民、宋平、李瑞环为政治局常委,政治局常委会由江泽民、李鹏、乔石、姚依林、宋平、李瑞环六人组成。
From June 23 to June 24, 1989, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 13th CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing. Before the plenary session, the Central Political Bureau held an enlarged meeting and made the necessary preparations for the plenary session. The theme of the Fourth Plenary Session was to discuss the serious mistakes made by Zhao Ziyang in the unrest between the spring and summer and to organize the corresponding organization. The plenary session elected Jiang Zemin as the general secretary of the Central Committee. Jiang Zemin, Song Ping and Li Ruihuan were elected as members of the Politburo. The Standing Committee of the Political Bureau consists of Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Qiao Shi, Yao Yilin, Song Ping and Li Ruihuan.
